Media

Define the electrical properties of the different media.

Warning : a media in Icare isn't just a set of dielectric properties. It actually defines an entity physically separated from the other media. For example, if a structure contains two separated dielectric elements with the same properties, two different media should be defined, one for each element.

If this tool is selected, the following window is presented. It contains all the materials that can be used is the computation.

To define a new medium, click on the Ť New ť icon, then enter a new material name :

To new material will be added to the list of available materials :

The electrical properties are defined with 4 values :

EPSILON r : the real part of the dielectric constant (or relative permittivity)

SIGMA : the conductivity in S/m (used to compute the imaginary part of the dielectric constant : - SIGMA / (ε0 2π f), where ε0 is the permittivity of the vacuum and f is the operating frequency)

Real MU r : the real part of the magnetic constant (or relative permeability)

Imaginary MU r : the imaginary part of the magnetic constant (or relative permeability)

Store the values by clicking on the Ť Update ť icon, or select Ť Close ť.

To delete a medium, click on the Ť Delete ť icon .

The expert's tip :

For a simulation containing only perfectly conducting metals, there is nothing to do in this part.
